The easiest way to disappoint yourself with an iced latte is to fill a tall glass with milk and ice, then expect one light espresso to do all the work. I build this drink from the coffee outward: a concentrated base, enough cold milk to soften it, and ice that cools without swallowing the flavor. This recipe makes one roughly 300 ml / 10 oz drink; it works with either Nespresso system when you choose an espresso-sized capsule made for that machine.

One-glass recipe

Ingredient

Espresso

Starting Amount
Two Original 40 ml shots, or one Vertuo 80 ml double espresso
Why It Matters
Concentration remains noticeable after the ice melts

Ingredient

Cold milk

Starting Amount
120 ml / 4 oz
Why It Matters
Enough for a creamy drink without burying the coffee

Ingredient

Ice

Starting Amount
90–120 g, about a generous handful
Why It Matters
Chills promptly; its melt also dilutes the cup

Ingredient

Optional syrup

Starting Amount
5–10 ml / 1–2 tsp
Why It Matters
Start small and taste after stirring

Use a glass of at least 350 ml and a separate heat-safe cup for the fresh coffee. If using a single 40 ml shot, scale the milk down to about 80–100 ml for a smaller drink. A Vertuo 230 ml mug capsule is designed for a different serving; it will make an iced coffee with milk, not the concentrated latte described here.

Make it without a watery finish

  1. Fill the serving glass with ice and pour in the cold milk. Stir in syrup now if you want a uniform sweetness.
  2. Brew the espresso into a separate cup using the capsule's intended setting. Two Original shots can be brewed consecutively; a Vertuo double espresso supplies a similarly useful base in one capsule.
  3. Pour the fresh coffee over the ice and milk. A few seconds of resting in the small cup makes pouring neater, but do not leave coffee at room temperature for a long time.
  4. Stir, taste after two sips, and adjust the next glass rather than dumping in more ingredients blindly. If the last third becomes thin, use larger ice cubes or slightly less milk next time.

Do not put ice into the machine's capsule holder or water tank. A cold glass is fine; brew into a heat-safe cup if you are unsure whether the serving glass tolerates sudden heat.

Which capsule should I choose?

For Original, Firenze Arpeggio makes a roasty cocoa-leaning latte, Ristretto Italiano gives a short, forceful base, and Freddo Intenso is sold for ice in markets where it is available. Volluto makes a gentler result; use less milk if you choose it. For Vertuo, Double Espresso Chiaro is a milk-friendly double shot, while Ice Leggero is another ice-oriented option where stocked. Availability changes, so check the current US sleeve and system before ordering. An intensity number is not the caffeine quantity.

If you only own Original but want a taller drink, two espresso capsules will preserve the coffee-to-milk ratio better than running lots of extra water through one capsule. The compatibility chart keeps the systems separate.

Variations that genuinely change the cup

Vanilla: Add 5 ml vanilla syrup to the cold milk. Caramel: use 5 ml caramel syrup and taste before adding more. Unsweetened: skip syrup and choose a sweeter-tasting, less roasty capsule, but remember tasting notes do not mean sugar was added. Oat milk: use a chilled barista-style oat drink if you want a fuller body; regular oat beverages vary in sweetness and texture. Iced cappuccino style: cold-froth some of the milk separately and spoon it on last; this produces foam rather than the smooth latte texture.

If the drink is too milky, add coffee concentration or lower milk volume. If it is too bitter, try a gentler capsule or a touch of sweetness, not more hot water. If it is watery at the end, reduce total ice melt by using larger cubes and drinking soon after mixing. Our iced coffee alternatives guide compares other coffee bases.

Equipment and serving

Any Original espresso machine, including Essenza Mini or Pixie, can supply the coffee. A Vertuo Pop+ can brew the double espresso when you use a compatible Vertuo capsule. No milk frother is required for a basic iced latte; an Aeroccino is optional if you want cold foam. Nespresso's US iced-latte recipe also builds the drink around espresso, ice and cold milk. Our proportions are a starting point you can tune to your glass.
