Buy the Vertuo Lattissima if one person wants a big mug of black coffee and another wants a cappuccino or latte macchiato, every day, from the same machine. Buy a Vertuo Next with an Aeroccino if lattes are an occasional thing and you would rather keep two simple appliances.

Buying in Canada

Canadian machines run on 120 V like US models, but warranty is handled in the country of purchase, so buy a Canadian listing. In Canada the same Nespresso machines are sold under the Breville and De'Longhi names; the coffee system is identical, so compare colour, bundle and price. Our links open Amazon.ca with prices in Canadian dollars, and Best Buy Canada and Nespresso boutiques also stock them. Manuals and packaging are bilingual, English and French.

The Vertuo Lattissima brews every everyday Vertuo size from espresso to a mug and has an integrated milk system with a fridge-able carafe of about 0.5 L. Cappuccino, latte macchiato and warm milk foam are one press each. It is built by De'Longhi and comes in black or white, which are otherwise identical.

It takes Vertuo pods only. Original capsules do not fit it, despite the shared Lattissima name with the Original machines.

Vertuo Lattissima and its alternatives at a glance

Vertuo Lattissima

About 1.6 L · Integrated carafe, about 0.5 L · About 25 to 30 s · Mugs and lattes, one machine

Vertuo Next + Aeroccino

1.1 L · Separate frother · About 25 to 30 s · Occasional lattes, plus cold foam

Lattissima One (Original)

1 L · Single-serve jug · About 25 s · Espresso-based milk drinks

Listings put the Vertuo Lattissima tank at 1.5 to 1.7 L depending on market. Milk recipes are cappuccino, latte macchiato and warm milk foam; coffee sizes follow the Vertuo pod barcode. De'Longhi lists the current 355 ml Alto and, per its specs, the 535 ml carafe; confirm both on the listing you buy.

Source: manufacturer specifications published by Nespresso, Breville and De'Longhi; figures can differ slightly by market and version.

Vertuo Lattissima (De'Longhi), black or white

Fill the milk carafe, attach it, and press cappuccino, latte macchiato or milk foam; the machine froths the milk and brews the pod into the same cup. Black coffee works like any other Vertuo machine, from a 40 ml espresso to a 230 ml mug, and De'Longhi lists the 12 oz Alto too.

The trade-offs are size and milk care. The body is about 7.5 in wide, 16 in deep and 12.4 in tall, so it needs real counter depth and clearance under cabinets. The carafe and its spout need rinsing after use and a proper wash regularly, and leftover milk goes back in the fridge.

WhichCapsule note: If two people in the house want different drinks every morning, this is the most convenient single Vertuo machine.

How often does the Vertuo Lattissima need refilling?

The 1.6 L tank holds about seven mugs at 7.8 oz or around 40 espressos, before rinse water, by simple arithmetic from the pod volumes. For one or two people that is a refill every few days.

The fixed tank sits at the back, so you pull the machine forward or lift the tank out under the cabinet. The used-pod container holds about 10 small pods or 6 large ones, which fills faster than the tank if you drink mugs.

WhichCapsule note: Under low wall cabinets, measure the lift height of the tank before you commit to this body.

Vertuo Lattissima vs Vertuo Next + Aeroccino

A Vertuo Next with an Aeroccino brews the same pods and makes milk foam in a separate jug. It lets you whip cold foam for iced lattes, but means two appliances and two steps per latte.

The integrated machine wins when milk drinks are daily and you want one button. The separate setup wins when lattes are occasional. Vertuo Next vs Vertuo Lattissima and VertuoPlus vs Vertuo Lattissima compare them.

WhichCapsule note: Daily lattes: Vertuo Lattissima. Weekly lattes: Vertuo Next and an Aeroccino.

Vertuo Lattissima vs Lattissima One

The Lattissima One is the Original-system equivalent: smaller, with a one-drink milk jug and espresso-based milk drinks. It cannot brew a large mug of black coffee.

So the question is the black coffee. If anyone in the house wants mugs, the Vertuo Lattissima covers them; if everyone drinks espresso and milk drinks, the Lattissima One is the lighter choice. Lattissima One vs Vertuo Lattissima has the details, and Vertuo Creatista vs Vertuo Lattissima covers the steam-wand alternative.

WhichCapsule note: Mugs and lattes: Vertuo Lattissima. Espresso and lattes only: Lattissima One.

Who should skip the Vertuo Lattissima?

Skip it if you want cold foam or latte art, since the milk system makes hot, preset drinks. Skip it if you drink one milk drink a week, or if your counter is shallow. For the carafe-and-lattes combination with hand-poured microfoam, look at the Vertuo Creatista.

Descale on the manual's schedule using Nespresso's descaling kit; the descaling guide has the general steps, and the pod size guide explains the cup sizes.

What people actually ask

Is the Vertuo Lattissima worth it?

For a household that drinks both large black coffees and milk drinks every day, yes. If lattes are occasional, a Vertuo Next with an Aeroccino is the lighter setup.

Vertuo Lattissima or Vertuo Creatista?

The Lattissima makes milk drinks at a button; the Creatista uses an automatic steam wand and a jug for café-style foam that you pour. See Vertuo Creatista vs Vertuo Lattissima.

Can it make iced lattes?

The milk system makes hot milk drinks. For an iced latte, brew over ice and add cold milk, or whip cold milk with a separate frother.

Does the Vertuo Lattissima leak?

Check that the milk carafe is clipped in and the tank is seated, and empty the drip tray regularly; our leak guide covers the rest. There is no published failure-rate data for this model.

Can it use Original capsules?

No. It takes Vertuo pods only.

Who should buy which version

  • Mugs for one person, lattes for another, every day: the Vertuo Lattissima.
  • Occasional lattes: a Vertuo Next with an Aeroccino.
  • Café-style foam and a little ritual: the Vertuo Creatista.
  • Espresso-based milk drinks only: the Lattissima One.

The bottom line

The Vertuo Lattissima is the one-machine answer for a household that wants both big mugs and lattes without thinking about it. It earns its size when milk drinks are a daily habit; if they are not, a Vertuo Next and an Aeroccino fit better.

The Vertuo Lattissima page lists its specs and the pods it takes, and the machine finder ranks it against the rest of the range for your answers.
