The Vertuo Pop+ is the small, affordable way into Vertuo: barcoded pods, espresso to a 12 oz-plus Alto mug, and a body that fits under most cabinets. The standard and Deluxe versions brew the same coffee. The difference that matters is the tank: about 25 oz on the standard machine and about 37 oz on the Deluxe, which also gets a metallic finish. One mug drinker can live with the standard tank; two people will refill it constantly.

This review relies on Nespresso's and Breville's published specifications. Pop+ listings on Amazon mix finishes, makers and bundles under similar titles, so I explain what to check before you order as well as which version to pick.

Vertuo Pop+ versions at a glance

Vertuo Pop+

25 oz (0.75 L) · 3 mugs (7.8 oz) · About 30 s · One person, small kitchen

Vertuo Pop+ Deluxe

37 oz (1.1 L) · 4 to 5 mugs · About 30 s · Two people, or one heavy drinker

Vertuo Pop (older model)

Smaller tank · 2 to 3 mugs · About 30 s · Lowest price, no Alto size

Cup sizes on the Pop+: espresso, double espresso, gran lungo (5 oz), mug (7.8 oz) and Alto (about 12 to 14 oz, depending on the listing). Supported XL and carafe formats depend on the exact generation and market. The 2025 Pop+ quick-start guide includes a carafe format, so do not use older comparison charts as proof of incompatibility. Check the current local manual and sleeve before buying.

Vertuo Pop+: the standard machine

The standard Pop+ is the cheapest current Vertuo machine with the Alto size. It reads the barcode on each pod and sets the volume, temperature and spin speed itself, so there is nothing to program: insert a pod, close the lid, press the button. Heat-up is about 30 seconds.

The tank is the limit. At about 25 oz it covers three standard mugs, or one Alto and a mug, before refilling. For one person with a morning mug and an afternoon coffee, that is a daily refill; for two people it is a refill per round. The small capsule bin fills quickly on Alto days too.

Pop+ comes in bright colors from both Breville and De'Longhi, and the machines are the same inside. Pick the color you want at the better price and check that the listing title says Pop+ rather than the older Vertuo Pop.

WhichCapsule note: One mug drinker, limited space, budget first: the standard Pop+. If two of you drink coffee, spend the difference on the Deluxe tank.

Vertuo Pop+ Deluxe: the bigger tank

The Deluxe keeps everything that matters about the Pop+ and adds two things: a larger tank of about 37 oz, accessible from the side, and a metallic finish. The tank is the reason to buy it. It roughly matches the Vertuo Next's capacity in a smaller, lighter body.

Some retailers bundle the Deluxe with an Aeroccino milk frother. That is worth having if you drink lattes, and worth skipping if you do not; check the listing photo and title for the frother before you pay a bundle price.

Compared with the Vertuo Next, compare the Deluxe by footprint, tank access and the formats supported by its exact generation. Vertuo Pop+ vs Vertuo Next compares them in detail.

WhichCapsule note: For most households the Deluxe is the Pop+ to buy. The larger tank can reduce refill frequency; the benefit depends on cup size and rinsing.

Pop+ vs Vertuo Next, and the cheaper Vertuo Pop

The Vertuo Next adds the 18 oz carafe size in the US and a 37 oz tank as standard, in a wider, flatter body. For weekend carafes, verify that the exact model and capsule are compatible; newer Pop+ documentation also lists that format.

The older Vertuo Pop is still sold and is often the cheapest Vertuo machine on Amazon. The name alone does not establish which XL formats it supports. Check its model code, local manual and sleeve; compare its tank and clearance with Pop+ before deciding that a lower price is a saving.

WhichCapsule note: Choose by verified capsule formats, tank capacity, clearance and the current total price; a model name alone is not a compatibility guarantee.

Sources and buying checks

Specifications and maintenance: Nespresso Vertuo Pop Plus assistance and the manual for the exact model sold in your country. This is a specification-based buying guide; we have not measured noise, durability or failure rates. Stated heat-up times are manufacturer figures, not total drink-preparation times. Tank-to-cup estimates exclude cleaning, rinse water and unusable water remaining in the tank. Check the selected seller, warranty region and bundle contents before checkout. What people actually ask

Is the Vertuo Pop+ worth it for one person?

Yes. One person drinking one or two mugs a day is exactly who the standard Pop+ was designed for. Expect to refill the 25 oz tank about daily.

What is the difference between the Vertuo Pop+ and Pop+ Deluxe?

The tank and the finish. The Deluxe holds about 37 oz instead of about 25 oz and has a metallic finish; the brewing, cup sizes and buttons are the same.

Vertuo Pop+ or Vertuo Next?

Compare exact generations: Next offers a 37 oz standard tank, while Pop+ has a smaller standard tank and a larger Deluxe option. XL and carafe support must be checked in the current manual; prices vary. See Vertuo Pop+ vs Vertuo Next.

Does the Vertuo Pop+ leak?

Check the lid lock, capsule rim, drip tray and tank seating using the model manual. Persistent leaks can require service; these checks do not establish a failure rate. Our leak guide covers each. There is no published failure-rate data for this model, so treat precise reliability claims online with caution.

Can you make iced coffee with the Pop+?

Yes. Brew a double espresso or a pod made for ice over a full glass of ice; Nespresso sells Vertuo pods designed to be poured over ice. For iced lattes, add cold milk or cold foam from a frother. Our iced latte guide has the method.

Is the Vertuo Pop+ loud?

Vertuo machines spin the pod to brew, so you hear a whir that rises for larger cups. It is normal; a new grinding or rattling sound needs model-specific troubleshooting; descaling is not a diagnosis for every noise. See is a noisy Nespresso normal?.

Can the Pop+ use Original capsules?

No. Vertuo machines only take Vertuo pods. If you want the wider choice of third-party capsules, read Original vs Vertuo first.

Who should buy which version

  • One person, one or two mugs a day: the standard Pop+.
  • Two people, or one heavy mug drinker: the Pop+ Deluxe for the 37 oz tank.
  • Lattes as well: a Pop+ Deluxe bundle with an Aeroccino, if the bundle costs less than buying both.
  • Weekend carafes: verify the current capsule and manual for either shortlist; the Vertuo Next is one option.
  • Mug is the biggest cup you drink and price matters most: the older Vertuo Pop.

The bottom line

The Vertuo Pop+ is the right first Vertuo for most small households, and the Deluxe is the version I would buy when its larger tank suits the household; verify the dimensions of the selected listing. Buy the standard Pop+ only if you live alone and every inch of counter counts.
