The Vertuo Next is the all-rounder of the Vertuo range: a 37 oz tank, every cup size from espresso to the 18 oz carafe in the US, and a slim body that sits flat under cabinets. The standard, Premium and Deluxe versions brew identically; they differ in trim, from plain plastic to chrome or rose-gold accents. The real decision is whether to buy it alone or with an Aeroccino milk frother, and whether you need the carafe size at all, because if you do not, the smaller Pop+ Deluxe does the same daily cups.

Everything here comes from Nespresso's and the manufacturers' published specifications, so you will find the figures and the trade-offs rather than invented test scores.

Vertuo Next versions at a glance

Vertuo Next (standard)

37 oz (1.1 L) · 4 to 5 mugs, or 2 carafes · About 30 s · Black coffee, every cup size

Vertuo Next Premium or Deluxe

37 oz (1.1 L) · Same · About 30 s · The same machine with nicer trim

Vertuo Next + Aeroccino

37 oz (1.1 L) · Same · About 30 s · Mugs and lattes

Cup sizes: espresso (1.35 oz), double espresso (2.7 oz), gran lungo (5 oz), mug (7.8 oz), Alto (14 oz) and, on US models, the 18 oz carafe. Both Breville and De'Longhi build it.

Vertuo Next solo: Breville or De'Longhi, standard or Deluxe

Every Vertuo Next reads the pod's barcode and sets the cup size and brewing itself, so the only controls are the lid and one button. The tank sits at the back and the body is low and wide rather than tall, which helps under shallow cabinets.

The standard, Premium and Deluxe versions differ in materials and accents. Premium models add chrome or rose-gold details and Deluxe models a chrome or dark chrome finish; the brewing, tank and sizes are the same. Pay for the finish only if you like it.

A compatible carafe pod can serve a weekend breakfast, but carafe support is not a safe blanket distinction from Pop+: newer Pop+ documentation also includes it. If you never brew carafes, compare the Pop+ Deluxe, which matches the tank in a smaller body.

WhichCapsule note: For black coffee in every size, the standard Next is the value pick. Buy Premium or Deluxe only for the look.

Vertuo Next with Aeroccino: the latte bundle

Nespresso and retailers sell the Next with an Aeroccino milk frother. The frother heats and foams milk, or froths it cold, while the coffee brews, which covers lattes, cappuccinos and iced lattes without changing machines.

Bundles are worth it when they cost less than the machine plus a separately bought Aeroccino on the day you order, and when you will use milk weekly. If milk drinks are your main coffee, compare the integrated Vertuo Lattissima as well; Vertuo Next vs Vertuo Lattissima sets out the trade-off.

WhichCapsule note: Occasional lattes: the Aeroccino bundle. Lattes every day with no second appliance: the Vertuo Lattissima.

Vertuo Next vs Pop+ and Vertuo Up

The Vertuo Pop+ is smaller and cheaper, and its Deluxe version has the same 37 oz tank, but supported XL and carafe formats depend on the generation and market. The Vertuo Up is newer, heats in about 3 seconds, has a larger 47 oz tank that can sit in several positions and a dedicated over-ice option.

If you want the fastest, most adjustable Vertuo, the Up is the upgrade. If you want every size at the lowest price, the Next still makes sense. More detail in Vertuo Pop+ vs Vertuo Next, Vertuo Next vs VertuoPlus and Vertuo Next vs Essenza Mini.

WhichCapsule note: Carafe on a budget: Next. Fastest heat-up, biggest tank and iced coffee at a button: Vertuo Up.

Sources and buying checks

Specifications and maintenance: Nespresso Vertuo Next assistance and the manual for the exact model sold in your country. This is a specification-based buying guide; we have not measured noise, durability or failure rates. Stated heat-up times are manufacturer figures, not total drink-preparation times. Tank-to-cup estimates exclude cleaning, rinse water and unusable water remaining in the tank. Check the selected seller, warranty region and bundle contents before checkout.

What people actually ask

Is the Vertuo Next worth it for one person?

Yes, if you drink mugs of coffee and like the option of a carafe at weekends. If you never brew carafes, the smaller Pop+ is enough for one person.

What is the difference between Vertuo Next, Premium and Deluxe?

Finish only: Premium adds chrome or rose-gold accents and Deluxe a chrome finish. The brewing, tank and cup sizes are the same.

Vertuo Next or Vertuo Pop+?

Compare tank access, footprint and current price after confirming the supported capsules for each exact generation. The Pop+ Deluxe matches the Next's tank. See Vertuo Pop+ vs Vertuo Next.

Does the Vertuo Next leak?

Check the lid lock, capsule rim, drip tray and tank seating. Persistent leaks need manufacturer diagnosis, even when those checks look normal. Our leak guide walks through them. Nespresso publishes no failure-rate data, so treat reliability rankings online as opinion.

How many mugs per tank?

About four to five 7.8 oz mugs, two Altos or two carafes per 37 oz fill.

Can it make iced coffee?

Yes: brew a double espresso or an over-ice pod onto a full glass of ice. For iced lattes add cold milk or cold foam; see our iced latte guide.

Is the Vertuo Next loud?

It spins the pod while brewing, so there is a whir that gets louder on larger cups. That is normal. A new grinding or rattling noise is worth checking against is a noisy Nespresso normal?.

Which Vertuo Next should I buy?

Standard Next for black coffee; the Aeroccino bundle if you drink lattes weekly and it is cheaper than buying the frother separately.

Take the quiz ↑

Who should buy which version

  • Black coffee, mugs and weekend carafes: the standard Vertuo Next.
  • Same, but you like the finish: Premium or Deluxe, only if the price gap is small.
  • Mugs plus weekly lattes: the Vertuo Next + Aeroccino bundle.
  • One person, no carafes, small kitchen: the Vertuo Pop+.
  • Fastest heat-up and a bigger tank: the Vertuo Up.

The bottom line

The Vertuo Next is still the sensible middle of the Vertuo range: every cup size including the carafe, a 37 oz tank and a low profile. Buy the plain version for black coffee, the Aeroccino bundle if milk is a habit, and look at the Vertuo Up only if a 3-second heat-up and the bigger tank are worth paying for.
