Choose Philips 3300 LatteGo if espresso, coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato and iced coffee cover your usual drinks and you do not need separate saved user profiles. Choose Philips 5500 LatteGo if several people want their own stored recipes or you will regularly use its additional drinks, such as Americano, flat white or iced latte.

The models in this comparison

Official Philips Home Appliances product photographs: US EP3341/50 Glossy Black and EP5544/94 Grey Chrome, both with LatteGo. Other finishes and model suffixes are separate variants.

This is a comparison of the US EP3341/50 in Glossy Black and EP5544/94 in Gray Chrome. Both grind beans, brew internally and dispense milk through LatteGo. The useful upgrade question is how often the larger menu and profile button will save you from changing another person’s recipe, rather than whether twenty sounds better than six.

Write down the drinks everyone actually made last week. Put the cup size and preferred strength beside each name, then mark where two people want different versions of the same drink. That small list reveals whether you need more recipes, more separately remembered settings, or neither.

Philips markets the 3300 as six drinks including hot water, and the 5500 as twenty hot and iced presets. These totals are not six versus twenty distinct espresso extraction systems, and they do not establish better coffee.

US comparison prepared October 21, 2026, from Philips documentation for EP3341/50 and EP5544/94. We assess daily drink selection, saved preferences and cleaning, without a comparative taste, noise, speed or reliability test. Four saved profiles plus a non-saving guest mode on the 5500 are distinguished from five saved users.

When the Philips 3300 already covers the job

For one person who rotates between morning coffee and an afternoon cappuccino, the 3300’s smaller menu may already cover the whole week. The direct choices are espresso, coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato and iced coffee, with hot water completing the marketed six. The machine still offers drink adjustments; a smaller menu does not mean every cup is fixed at one strength or quantity.

The distinction is whose settings are remembered. The 3300 does not provide separate named or colored user profiles. If two people want different versions of the same recipe, they need to manage that shared choice. Before buying the 5500 for profile storage, ask whether anyone actually changes the settings often enough for sharing them to be a nuisance.

A household that agrees on one coffee size and one cappuccino recipe may have little use for four profiles. I would keep the decision with the 3300 when the daily list fits its menu and everyone is comfortable with the shared controls. That is a fit judgment, not a claim that a short menu improves taste or makes maintenance disappear.

WhichCapsule note: This is EP3341/50 with LatteGo, not a steam-wand 3300 variant or a different finish substituted under the series name.

When the 5500’s profiles solve a real household problem

Imagine two people both choosing cappuccino: one wants a smaller, stronger drink and the other wants more milk. On the 5500, assign a colored profile to each person, select it before choosing the drink, then set that recipe as directed. The manual says the selected settings are saved to the chosen profile when brewing finishes. Forgetting to switch profiles can still change the wrong person’s recipe.

The meaningful count is four saved user profiles plus guest. Guest mode lets a visitor adjust a drink without storing that recipe in a personal profile. It is not a fifth saved user. Philips’ US product-page prose contains inconsistent profile counts, so this guide follows the four-plus-guest comparison specification and the manual’s explanation of guest behavior.

Profiles also do not split the machine into four independent stations. Everyone shares the beans in the hopper, the grinder setting, the water tank and the milk assembly. The manual lists coffee temperature in the machine-settings menu; do not buy on the assumption that each profile independently remembers every hardware or machine setting.

If one person wants decaf occasionally, a different profile does not change the beans already loaded. The manual offers a pre-ground-coffee route, with its own dosing and selection instructions. Plan that separately from profile storage rather than treating a profile name as a second hopper.

WhichCapsule note: Set up each person’s usual recipes deliberately. The guest mode is useful for experiments and visitors, but it does not preserve a fifth person’s favorites.

Count the drinks you will select, not every name on the menu

Americano, flat white and the additional iced selections make the 5500 a different purchase for someone who wants those recipes available in the menu. If you currently order those drinks regularly, put them on the weekly list. If you only expect to explore them once, treat that as occasional variety rather than a daily requirement.

Having no dedicated Americano button on the 3300 does not mean you cannot combine espresso and hot water yourself. It does mean you are doing a different sequence. Decide whether that extra handling is acceptable. Likewise, do not label a changed cappuccino or latte macchiato setting as an identical substitute for every named milk recipe without checking its preparation.

For iced drinks, the 5500 manual describes warm-water coffee brewed over ice. Its LatteGo is a hot-milk system, not a separate cold-foam attachment. The iced label does not establish cold extraction or a cold-brew program. The 3300 also has iced coffee, so wanting a cold cup by itself is not enough reason to choose the 5500.

The 5500 also has ExtraShot. In the manual, this adds an extra ristretto to a selected coffee or milk drink; it is a separate function from moving the aroma-strength control. It changes the preparation you request, rather than proving that the base espresso or grinder is better. Buy it for a recipe you want to repeat, not as an automatic quality upgrade.

WhichCapsule note: Neither the advertised recipe total nor a larger display is evidence of a taste-test winner. We have not measured extraction, milk temperature or a full morning routine on these machines.

A shared morning: profile choice comes before the first cup

For the 3300, agree on the usual recipe settings and how the second person checks them. For the 5500, make profile selection part of the sequence before pressing a drink icon. On both, fill water and beans as needed, attach LatteGo correctly for milk drinks, position the cup and move it when preparation is complete.

Plan two cappuccinos as consecutive milk drinks. A two-coffee function is not a promise of two complete milk drinks at once. If the second drink uses another milk, changing a profile does not empty or wash the shared container. Read the cleaning procedure and decide who changes and washes the milk equipment.

Finish the rehearsal with the person making the final drink. That person still has milk parts, the drip tray and grounds to deal with. If nobody accepts that last task, neither the bigger menu nor saved profiles fixes the underlying problem. For the different milk-maintenance trade-off, Philips 3300 vs Magnifica Evo compares two automatic milk systems.

WhichCapsule note: This sequence assigns responsibility rather than timing the machines. QuickStart and SilentBrew marketing should not be turned into a measured head-to-head speed or noise claim.

LatteGo cleaning remains part of either choice

Both use a removable LatteGo milk container and frame. Washing that assembly remains a daily ownership task, whether you select a recipe from a small panel or a color display. Follow the instructions for the exact model; neither a profile nor a milk-system name makes old milk residue disappear.

The 5500 manual distinguishes Quick milk clean from taking LatteGo apart and washing it. Its maintenance table calls for the quick program followed by removal and rinsing or dishwasher cleaning after use. Follow the manual’s milk-storage instructions when relevant, and do not describe an outlet rinse as a substitute for thorough cleaning.

For the internal coffee path, both manuals specify weekly brew-group rinsing and monthly coffee-oil-remover treatment, with lubrication addressed separately. Emptying the tray and grounds and managing water hardness, filters and descaling remain separate jobs. An AquaClean cups-before-descaling claim is conditional on the prescribed filter replacements; it is not permission to skip milk or coffee-oil cleaning.

Before buying: match the US model, finish and offer

The cards use EP3341/50 Glossy Black and EP5544/94, which Philips’ US page describes as Gray Chrome. The 5500 page’s URL ends in ep5544-95, while its specifications identify EP5544/94. We use the model printed in the specifications and matched Amazon title, rather than silently changing the machine to a different suffix.

Philips lists the US 5500 as 120 V. The Amazon detail table displayed a conflicting 230 V field during our check. Treat that retail field as a discrepancy to resolve against the exact unit and seller before ordering; do not assume an imported 230 V appliance is suitable for a US outlet. This guide does not claim to have inspected an individual machine’s rating label.

A new EP5544/94 offer sold and shipped by Amazon.com was visible in the alternative-seller panel on October 21, 2026. The default selected offer was from another seller, so following the product link does not guarantee Amazon.com will be selected for you. The 3300 offer reuses our earlier exact-model verification. Review current condition, seller, fulfillment, US specification and box contents; used and Renewed offers are separate choices.

If neither menu answers your real question

If you want to avoid the bean-machine maintenance routine, first compare whole bean and capsule coffee. Both Philips machines use beans and spent grounds, not Nespresso Original or Vertuo capsules. The site’s Nespresso finder does not rank these bean-to-cup models.

If you are deciding how much automatic milk equipment you want, Gran Lattissima vs Lattissima One explains a capsule-based alternative. Choose the category and cleanup routine first; a longer Philips menu only helps after you are comfortable owning this type of machine.

What people actually ask

Is the Philips 5500 worth choosing over the 3300?

Choose it when the extra named drinks or separate saved recipes solve a recurring need. If the 3300’s espresso, coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato and iced coffee cover your routine and shared settings are fine, the larger menu may add little you actually use.

How many user profiles does the Philips 5500 have?

Philips’ US comparison specifies four saved user profiles plus guest. The manual says guest recipes are not stored, so this is not five saved users. Select the correct colored profile before adjusting and brewing a personal recipe.

Does the Philips 3300 save separate profiles?

No. EP3341/50 has drink adjustments but no separate user profiles. People who want different versions of the same drink need to manage the shared settings instead of selecting their own profile.

Does Philips 5500 make cold brew or cold milk foam?

The manual describes warm-water coffee brewed over ice, and the US comparison identifies a hot LatteGo milk system. Iced recipes do not establish cold extraction or a separate cold-foam function.

Does Quick milk clean replace washing LatteGo?

No. The 5500 manual separates its quick program from taking LatteGo apart and washing it. Follow the after-use cleaning table and the milk-storage instructions for your routine.

Will a profile switch the 5500 from regular beans to decaf?

No. Profiles share the same hopper and grinder. The manual describes a separate pre-ground-coffee option for occasions such as decaf, with its own selection and dosing instructions.

Choose using your household’s actual drink list

  • Choose 3300 when its core recipes cover your normal week and you do not need separately stored versions of each drink.
  • Choose 5500 when people repeatedly change the same recipes or regularly want its additional named hot and iced drinks.
  • Use 5500 guest mode for temporary changes, with the understanding that the guest recipe is not saved.
  • Choose neither on the assumption that automatic brewing eliminates washing milk equipment or maintaining the brew group.

The bottom line

I would start with the 3300 for a household whose weekly drink list already fits the six-item menu. I would move to the 5500 when saved personal recipes or repeatedly used additional drinks address a specific frustration, rather than treating every extra menu item as a benefit by default.

Before ordering, identify the settings you would store for each person and the extra recipes you would select regularly. Then agree on who handles the final milk cleanup. That decision survives a changing offer price and is more useful than choosing by the largest number on the box.

Pods for this machine

Start with the right pods for either system

Original machines take only Original pods and Vertuo machines only Vertuo pods. A variety pack is the cheapest way to find the coffee you will reorder.
