Choose the Philips 3300 LatteGo if you want automatic drinks from beans and prefer a two-part milk assembly without tubes to take apart. Choose the Nespresso Gran Lattissima if changing coffee capsules cup by cup matters more than choosing whole beans, and you accept its milk-system rinse and disassembly. Both automate brewing and milk delivery; neither makes milk cleanup optional.

The models in this comparison

The comparison is between the US Philips EP3341/50 in Glossy Black and the De’Longhi Gran Lattissima in White / Fresh Vitality. The Philips grinds coffee into an internal brew group. The Gran Lattissima uses Nespresso Original capsules and an attached milk carafe. It does not take Vertuo pods, and neither capsule format belongs in the Philips.

For a fair decision, give both machines the same job: two milk coffees before work, a black coffee later and a counter ready for tomorrow. Counting drink icons alone misses the coffee-format choice and most of the ownership work.

The table compares tasks, not measured speed. Gran Lattissima’s milk rinse is not a substitute for washing its milk components. The exact US Philips offer is EP3341/50, not every machine carrying the 3300 name.

US comparison reviewed October 20, 2026, using manufacturer pages and care instructions. The buying cards show EP3341/50 Glossy Black and Gran Lattissima White / Fresh Vitality. We assess preparation and maintenance, without a side-by-side taste, noise, temperature or brewing-time test.

Philips 3300: beans without a portafilter routine

The Philips handles grinding, brewing and grounds disposal inside the machine. You refill coffee and water, choose a drink and adjust the available settings. Unlike a manual espresso setup, there is no portafilter to dose, tamp and knock out for every coffee. The used grounds still accumulate in a container you must empty and clean.

EP3341/50 has a ceramic grinder with 12 settings. That is a control over preparation, rather than twelve coffee types. If you enjoy buying a particular roaster’s beans and want that coffee as your everyday choice, this is the stronger reason to consider Philips. A hopper suits a shared regular coffee better than constant switching between different beans.

Philips describes six drinks for this model, including hot water. The menu covers espresso, coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato and iced coffee as well as water. Those six choices should not be compared with another machine’s recipe count as though every item were an equivalent coffee serving. A cup of hot water is not another milk drink.

Gran Lattissima: change the capsule, keep automatic milk

Gran Lattissima starts from an individually portioned Original capsule. Put the capsule in, attach the prepared milk system when needed and select the recipe. The important advantage for a mixed household is choosing a different coffee for the next cup without changing a bean hopper or grinder setting.

Its nine one-touch selections cover ristretto, espresso and lungo alongside cappuccino, latte macchiato, caffè latte, flat white, hot milk and hot foam. These are not nine different beans, and the milk-only selections are not extra coffee formats. Select a machine because it makes the drink you want in a suitable way, rather than because nine is larger than six.

The Gran uses a multi-component Rapid Cappuccino System. Automatic milk delivery is convenient, but the carafe and its milk-contact parts still need care. This is a meaningful difference from buying an Original machine with a separate frother. Read the Gran Lattissima review for the capsule machine’s own workflow before comparing it with a bean machine.

WhichCapsule note: The card shows White / Fresh Vitality. A similarly named Fresh White older offer, a black finish and a Renewed listing are separate buying choices; they are not silently substituted here.

Two cappuccinos: milk cleanup after the second cup

Before the first coffee, both setups need clean milk equipment and milk prepared according to their instructions. With Philips, the coffee comes from the hopper and the LatteGo assembly supplies milk. With Gran Lattissima, insert a capsule for each coffee preparation and position the milk system and cup correctly. A second person choosing another coffee is a capsule change on the Gran, but may be a more involved change on the Philips.

After the drinks, take the milk job to completion. Philips’ two-part LatteGo design has no milk tubes to dismantle. Its manual calls for cleaning after use, with the stated tap or dishwasher method. That simpler assembly is a practical reason to prefer it if taking several small milk parts apart would cause you to postpone washing.

On Gran Lattissima, use the prompted Clean rinse and follow the instructions for the remaining milk and component washing. The rinse moves hot water and steam through the milk outlet; it does not clean every milk-contact surface by itself. The North American manual provides dishwasher and hand-washing methods, with disassembly and a soak in the hand-washing procedure. Allow for that work even when the front button says Clean.

WhichCapsule note: This comparison does not replace either care manual. Use the instructions supplied with your exact machine, especially for milk storage, washing and reassembly.

The weekly job: brew group or capsule container?

Beans move the coffee residue inside the Philips. Its removable brew group needs the water-only weekly rinse described in the manual; coffee-oil removal and the other maintenance steps have their own schedule. Do not wash the brew group with milk-system detergent or treat a descaling cycle as coffee-oil cleaning. Those are different tasks.

Gran Lattissima leaves spent capsules instead of loose pucks in a grounds bin. Eject them and empty the container as required, then clean the tray and other removable parts using the instructions. Avoid leaving used capsules as a wet backlog simply because the machine can still fit another one. The absence of a bean grinder removes grinder care, but milk-system care remains.

For both machines, water quality and hardness affect the descaling routine. Set up the selected machine correctly and follow its alert and manual. A filter claim is not a promise of never descaling. If you are replacing an existing machine, check which cleaning supplies genuinely transfer rather than assuming all coffee-machine products are interchangeable.

WhichCapsule note: The fair comparison includes daily and periodic jobs. A short coffee-making sequence can coexist with a more involved milk-washing routine.

Regular, decaf and the large-mug question

If two people drink different coffees, write down how often they alternate. Original capsules let you select regular, decaf or another blend for each cup. Philips supports a pre-ground coffee route as described in its manual, but that is a separate preparation step rather than a second automatic hopper. Use only the designated compartment and instructions; capsules never go into it.

If you mostly want a mug of black coffee, distinguish a Philips coffee recipe from an Original lungo or an Americano made by adding water to espresso. They are different preparations. Adding a large amount of milk can also make a short coffee base seem mild; count how many capsules or coffee preparations your normal drink actually uses.

Vertuo is another capsule system, with machine-dependent larger cup options. It is not an alternative pod you can insert into the Gran. The Original vs Vertuo guide explains that separate system decision. Do not buy a Gran Lattissima expecting it to take over an existing collection of Vertuo pods.

Compare running costs using the drinks you make

Use a normal week rather than a universal per-cup saving. For capsules, count capsules per drink and multiply by your purchase cost. For beans, use bag cost divided by its net weight, multiplied by the amount of coffee actually consumed. Include coffee discarded during adjustment and drinks poured away. A two-capsule latte should not be costed as a one-capsule espresso.

Then add cleaning supplies, filters where applicable and any equipment you still need. Both linked machines include milk systems, so a separate frother is not the default missing item. The whole-bean vs capsule guide considers the wider format choice. Without your receipts and usage, there is no defensible universal payback date.

Beans leave grounds and packaging; capsules leave individual portions of packaging with the grounds inside. That visible difference alone is not a full environmental comparison. Recycling depends on the exact capsule and an available collection route you actually use. Neither format justifies a blanket environmental winner without looking at coffee waste, energy and milk as well.

Check condition as well as the model name

The Gran Lattissima White / Fresh Vitality new offer checked on October 20, 2026 was sold by NO TIME TO DEAL and shipped from Amazon. The older Fresh White ASIN we checked had used-only offers, so it is not the buying link in this comparison. Philips EP3341/50 was checked with the third-party seller Just Right! and shipping from Amazon. These are observed offers, not permanent seller guarantees.

All buying cards open the exact Amazon product with our affiliate tag. Review the selected seller, condition, return terms and included components again before purchase. A Nespresso or Philips storefront heading does not identify the seller, and shipping from Amazon is different from being sold by Amazon. A used or Renewed milk machine should never be treated as a new offer merely because its product name matches.

What people actually ask

Is Philips 3300 easier to clean than Gran Lattissima?

LatteGo has a simpler two-part milk assembly without tubes, which reduces the pieces you handle. Philips also needs brew-group and grounds-container maintenance. Gran Lattissima avoids a bean grinder and loose grounds handling, but its multi-part milk system needs rinsing and washing. Compare both sets of tasks.

Does Gran Lattissima’s Clean cycle wash the whole milk system?

No. The rinse does not replace disassembly and washing of the milk-contact components. Follow the North American manual’s dishwasher or hand-washing method, as well as its milk-handling instructions.

Can either machine use both beans and Nespresso capsules?

No. Philips EP3341/50 uses beans and a designated pre-ground coffee route described in its manual. Gran Lattissima uses Nespresso Original capsules. Vertuo capsules fit neither of these machines.

Which is better when one person drinks decaf?

Gran Lattissima makes switching coffee cup by cup straightforward: select a different Original capsule. Philips has a pre-ground coffee route for a separate preparation, but that is not a second bean hopper. The best fit depends on how often your household changes coffee.

Do nine recipes mean Gran Lattissima makes more types of coffee?

Not directly. Its count includes milk-only options, while Philips’ six-drink count includes hot water. Compare the drinks you will actually make, the coffee format and the cleanup rather than treating the counts as equivalent servings.

Which one tastes better?

We have not conducted a controlled tasting of the two machines. Philips offers whole-bean choice and preparation adjustments; Gran Lattissima offers portioned Original coffees with cup-by-cup variety. Those differences guide the purchase without establishing a universal flavor winner.

Who should buy which version

  • Choose Philips EP3341/50 when you want a familiar bag of beans, automatic brewing and a milk assembly with few pieces to wash.
  • Choose Gran Lattissima when individual Original coffee choices and automatic milk recipes suit the household, and its carafe washing routine is acceptable.
  • Keep looking if avoiding milk-system cleaning is the priority: automatic milk delivery does not remove it on either machine.

The bottom line

I would start with Philips for a household committed to beans that wants a simple milk assembly. I would start with Gran Lattissima for people who prefer Original capsules and frequently choose different coffees from each other.

Rehearse the same two cappuccinos and the cleanup afterward. The better choice is the coffee format and maintenance routine your household will keep using, rather than the machine with the larger number printed beside its recipes.

Pods for this machine

Start with the right pods for either system

Original machines take only Original pods and Vertuo machines only Vertuo pods. A variety pack is the cheapest way to find the coffee you will reorder.
