Short answer: pick the Philips 3300 LatteGo EP3341/50 if you want one bag of beans to feed every drink and a milk container with only two parts to wash. Pick the Gran Lattissima if each person in your home wants to choose a different coffee for every cup, and you are fine rinsing and taking apart a carafe after milk drinks.

In Canada you are comparing the Philips EP3341/50 with the De’Longhi Gran Lattissima (Canadian model; check the code on the box), which De’Longhi builds for Nespresso. The Philips grinds whole beans into an internal brew group. The Gran Lattissima takes Nespresso Original capsules only. Vertuo pods do not fit it, and no capsule of any kind goes into the Philips.

Both run on the same 120 V household outlet you already use, and both come in bilingual packaging. That makes the real question a daily one: what do you put in the machine each morning, and what do you have to wash before you leave for work?

Tasks, not timings. The Gran Lattissima’s Clean rinse does not replace washing its milk parts. The Philips reference is EP3341/50 with LatteGo, not every machine sold under the 3300 name.

Canadian edition prepared November 4, 2026. This is a comparison from manufacturer documentation (product pages and North American care manuals), not a hands-on test: no taste, noise, milk-temperature or brewing-time measurements were made. Confirm the exact Canadian model code, the bilingual packaging and the warranty terms for the country of purchase before ordering.

Philips 3300: whole beans, no portafilter

With the EP3341/50 you fill the water tank and the bean hopper, choose a drink and let the machine grind, tamp and brew internally. There is no portafilter to dose and knock out for each cup. Used coffee still collects in a grounds container that you empty and rinse.

The ceramic grinder has 12 settings. Treat them as a way to adjust one coffee, not as twelve coffees. If you like buying beans from a local roaster and drinking that bag every day, this is the strongest reason to shortlist the Philips. A single hopper suits a household that agrees on one everyday coffee far better than one that changes beans for every cup.

Philips lists six drinks for this model: espresso, coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato, iced coffee and hot water. Hot water is useful, but it is not a coffee recipe, so do not weigh six against another machine’s count as if every icon were a separate drink.

Gran Lattissima: a new capsule for every cup

The Gran Lattissima starts from a sealed Original capsule. You insert it, attach the prepared milk carafe when you want milk and press a recipe. For a household where one person wants a strong ristretto and another wants a mild lungo, changing coffee is just a different capsule, with no hopper to empty or grinder to reset.

Its nine one-touch recipes cover ristretto, espresso and lungo, plus cappuccino, latte macchiato, caffè latte, flat white, hot milk and hot foam. Two of those are milk only, so nine is not nine coffees. Choose the machine because it makes the drinks you already order, not because its number is larger.

The milk side is the Rapid Cappuccino System, a carafe with several parts that touch milk. Automatic milk is convenient, and the carafe still needs washing. Our Gran Lattissima review walks through the capsule machine on its own if you want that detail first.

WhichCapsule note: Gran Lattissima finishes and bundles vary by retailer in Canada. Match the model code on the box rather than the colour name alone.

Two cappuccinos, then the cleanup

Start both machines with clean milk equipment and cold milk prepared as the manuals describe. On the Philips, coffee comes from the hopper and LatteGo supplies the milk. On the Gran Lattissima, you insert a capsule for each coffee and position the carafe and cup. If the second person wants a different coffee, that is a capsule swap on the Gran and a bean or setting change on the Philips.

After the second drink, the Philips asks you to separate the two LatteGo parts and wash them under the tap or in the dishwasher, as the manual states. There are no milk tubes to pull out. If small milk parts tend to sit in your sink until evening, that simpler assembly is a practical point in its favour.

On the Gran Lattissima, press Clean to push hot water and steam through the milk outlet, then follow the manual for the carafe. The North American manual gives dishwasher and hand-washing methods, and hand washing includes taking the lid apart and soaking parts. The button helps; it does not wash every surface that milk touched.

WhichCapsule note: This comparison does not replace either manual. Follow the instructions supplied with your exact Canadian unit for milk storage, washing and reassembly.

The weekly job: brew group or capsule container

On the Philips, coffee residue stays inside the machine. The manual asks for a weekly water-only rinse of the removable brew group, with coffee-oil removal and lubrication on their own schedule. Do not wash the brew group with milk-system cleaner, and do not treat descaling as coffee-oil cleaning; they are separate tasks.

The Gran Lattissima collects spent capsules instead of loose grounds. Empty the container before it is full, then wash the drip tray and capsule container as directed. You skip grinder care entirely, but milk-system care stays on the list.

On both machines, the hardness of your tap water sets how often descaling comes up. Tap water hardness varies a lot between Canadian cities, so check your municipality’s figure, set the machine’s water-hardness option during setup and follow its alert. A water filter reduces descaling; it does not end it.

WhichCapsule note: A fair comparison counts daily and periodic jobs together. A quick button sequence can still lead to a longer washing routine.

Decaf, mixed tastes and the big-mug question

If two people drink different coffees, count how often they switch in a normal week. Original capsules let each person pick regular, decaf or another blend cup by cup. The Philips has a pre-ground coffee chute described in its manual, which works for an occasional decaf, but it is a separate step rather than a second hopper. Use only that compartment and never put a capsule in it.

If you mostly drink a large black coffee, note that the Philips coffee recipe, an Original lungo and an Americano made with added hot water are three different preparations. A drink with a lot of milk can also make a short coffee base taste mild, so count how many capsules or coffee shots your usual mug really takes.

Vertuo is a separate Nespresso system with its own pods and machines. It is not an optional pod for the Gran Lattissima, so if you already have a cupboard of Vertuo pods, this machine will not use them.

Compare the week you actually drink

Write down a normal week: how many milk drinks, how many black coffees and how often someone wants decaf. Next to each, note what goes into the machine. For capsules, that is the number of capsules per drink; a latte made with two capsules is not the same as one espresso. For beans, it is the grams of coffee per drink, including any coffee used while you adjust the grinder.

Then add what keeps each machine running: descaler, filters if you use them, milk-system cleaner and coffee-oil tablets for the Philips. Both machines already include automatic milk, so you do not need a separate frother for either.

Beans leave grounds and bags; capsules leave individual portions of packaging with the grounds inside. Recycling depends on the exact capsule and a collection option you actually use where you live. Neither format is a blanket environmental winner once energy, milk and coffee waste are included.

Buying in Canada: model code, packaging and warranty

Best Buy Canada and Costco Canada both carry automatic coffee machines, but stock, finishes and bundles change. Check the full model code, the bilingual box and what is included before you order, and keep the receipt for warranty claims.

Warranty is handled in the country of purchase. A machine bought abroad or from an import seller may not be supported by Philips or Nespresso Canada, even when the name matches. Confirm that the unit is the Canadian version, rated for 120 V, before relying on local support.

What people actually ask

Is the Philips 3300 easier to clean than the Gran Lattissima?

LatteGo has two milk parts and no tubes, so there is less to handle after milk drinks. The Philips adds brew-group and grounds care. The Gran Lattissima has no grinder or loose grounds, but its carafe needs rinsing and washing. Compare both sets of tasks with your own routine.

Does the Gran Lattissima Clean button wash the whole milk system?

No. It rinses the milk outlet with hot water and steam. You still need to take the carafe apart and wash it using the dishwasher or hand-washing method in the North American manual.

Can either machine use beans and Nespresso capsules?

No. The Philips EP3341/50 uses whole beans, plus a pre-ground coffee chute. The Gran Lattissima uses Nespresso Original capsules only. Vertuo pods fit neither machine.

Which is better if one person drinks decaf?

The Gran Lattissima makes it simple: choose a decaf Original capsule for that cup. The Philips can take pre-ground decaf through its separate chute, which is fine occasionally but is not a second hopper.

Do nine recipes mean the Gran Lattissima makes more coffees?

Not exactly. Its nine include hot milk and hot foam, and the Philips six include hot water. Compare the drinks you actually make and the cleanup after them.

Are both machines sold in Canada with local support?

Philips has a Canadian support page for EP3341/50, and Nespresso supports the Gran Lattissima in Canada. Check the model code on the box and buy the Canadian version so the warranty applies where you live.

Which one tastes better?

This guide is based on manufacturer documentation, not a tasting. The Philips gives you whole-bean choice and grinder adjustment; the Gran Lattissima gives you portioned Original coffees and easy cup-by-cup variety.

Choose the routine your home will keep

  • Choose the Philips EP3341/50 if you buy one coffee in bags, want automatic brewing and prefer a two-part milk container.
  • Choose the Gran Lattissima if people in your home want different Original coffees cup by cup and you accept the carafe washing.
  • Choose the Philips if you already enjoy beans from a local roaster and want them in every drink.
  • Look elsewhere if you want to avoid washing milk parts entirely: neither machine removes that job.

The bottom line

I would start with the Philips 3300 for a Canadian household that drinks one coffee from a bag and wants the simplest milk assembly here. I would start with the Gran Lattissima where people want different coffees from each other, including decaf, without touching a grinder.

Before you order, picture two cappuccinos and the washing that follows. The right machine is the coffee format and cleanup you will repeat every morning, and the right unit is the Canadian model with bilingual packaging and a local warranty. If you are still weighing beans against beans, Philips 3300 vs 5500 LatteGo covers the Philips upgrade question.
