Quick Answer

Choose Vertuo Pop+ if you want a compact, simpler Vertuo machine for espresso, double espresso, gran lungo, mug-style coffee, and other compatible Vertuo formats where available. It is better if you mostly drink black coffee, have limited counter space, and want the Vertuo system without paying for an integrated milk machine.

Choose Vertuo Lattissima if you want Vertuo coffee plus built-in milk recipes. It is better if cappuccino, latte macchiato, caffè latte, hot milk, or milk foam are part of your regular routine and you want the machine to handle more of the milk process.

Both machines use Nespresso Vertuo capsules, not Nespresso Original capsules. The real decision is not capsule compatibility. It is whether you want a compact budget-style Vertuo machine or a larger milk-first Vertuo machine.

Vertuo Pop+ vs Vertuo Lattissima: Side-by-Side Comparison

Capsule System: Both Are Vertuo Machines

Vertuo Pop+ and Vertuo Lattissima are both Nespresso Vertuo machines. They use Vertuo capsules and do not accept Nespresso Original capsules.

That matters because Vertuo and Original are separate systems. Original-compatible third-party capsules do not work in Vertuo machines unless a brand specifically makes verified Vertuo-format capsules, which is not the normal compatible-capsule market.

Both machines are built around Vertuo’s capsule recognition and cup-size variety. Depending on your country and capsule range, Vertuo can include espresso-style drinks, double espresso, gran lungo, mug coffees, and larger coffee formats.

If you already own Original capsules or want the broader Original-compatible capsule ecosystem, neither machine is the right fit. If you want Vertuo, the decision becomes milk and size.

What Vertuo Pop+ Does Better

Vertuo Pop+ is the better choice if you want the Vertuo system in a smaller, simpler machine. It is made for users who want one-button coffee without a milk carafe attached to the machine.

It works well if you drink mostly black coffee or add a splash of milk manually. You get access to the Vertuo coffee range without committing counter space to an integrated milk system.

Pop+ is also easier to position in small kitchens, office corners, and apartments. In some markets, Pop+ has a larger tank than the regular Vertuo Pop, but it still stays compact compared with milk-first machines. Exact water tank size and finishes vary by country.

What Vertuo Lattissima Adds

Vertuo Lattissima adds integrated milk. That is the main reason to choose it over Pop+.

Instead of brewing coffee and using a separate frother, you use the milk carafe and the machine’s milk preparations. That makes cappuccino, latte macchiato, and milk-based recipes easier if they are part of your routine.

The trade-off is size and cleaning. Vertuo Lattissima is a larger machine, and milk systems need more care. If you drink milk coffees daily, that trade-off can be worth it. If milk drinks are occasional, Pop+ plus a separate frother may be more sensible.

Drink Routine: Black Coffee or Milk Drinks?

Think about your real drinks, not the machine photos.

Choose Vertuo Pop+ if your usual drinks are espresso, double espresso, gran lungo, mug coffee, iced coffee styles, or black coffee with simple milk added after brewing. It keeps the machine focused on coffee.

Choose Vertuo Lattissima if your default drink is cappuccino, latte macchiato, or a coffee-and-milk recipe. If you would use the milk carafe several times per week, the integrated system becomes more valuable.

A useful rule: Pop+ is for coffee-first Vertuo users. Vertuo Lattissima is for milk-first Vertuo users.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Vertuo Pop+ is easier to maintain because there is no integrated milk system. You still need to empty used capsules, clean the drip tray, rinse the water tank, wipe the coffee outlet, and descale according to the official manual.

Vertuo Lattissima requires all of that plus milk-system care. The milk carafe and milk path must be cleaned according to official instructions. One-touch milk preparation does not mean maintenance-free.

If you dislike cleaning milk parts, Pop+ is safer. If you accept cleaning in exchange for convenient milk drinks, Lattissima is the better fit.

Which Machine Should You Choose?

Choose Vertuo Pop+ if…

Choose Vertuo Pop+ if you want a compact, simpler Vertuo machine for everyday coffee. It is better if you have limited space, mostly drink black coffee, or want to keep milk preparation separate.

It also makes sense if you want to start with Vertuo before committing to a larger milk machine.

Choose Vertuo Lattissima if…

Choose Vertuo Lattissima if milk drinks are central to your routine. It is better if you want one machine to handle both Vertuo coffee and milk preparations.

It is also better for households where one person wants mug coffee and another wants cappuccino or latte macchiato.

Choose Vertuo Lattissima if you want Vertuo coffee sizes plus integrated milk preparations in one larger machine.

The buying decision after the spec chart

These are both Vertuo machines. Pop+ is a compact coffee brewer that needs a separate frother for a cappuccino. Vertuo Lattissima has an integrated milk system and preset milk drinks. The latter's value depends on how often milk is prepared, while Pop+'s side-access tank can be useful on a tight counter. Include a frother, its outlet and cleaning in a fair Pop+ bundle comparison.

Can Pop+ make a latte without buying another machine?

It brews the coffee base, but it does not texture fresh milk itself. Add a compatible separate milk frother or heat milk another way. If a one-touch milk sequence is essential, Vertuo Lattissima is the closer fit. If black mugs and occasional iced or milk drinks dominate, Pop+ plus a small frother may be easier to justify.
