Choose the Ninja Luxe Café Premier ES601 if guided espresso, coffee and cold brew cover your routine and you are happy to tamp with a separate tool. Choose the Pro ES701 if its integrated tamping lever, independent hot water and expanded milk options solve tasks you do repeatedly. Both still leave a portafilter and milk equipment to clean.

The useful upgrade question is what changes between grinding and leaving the counter ready. A longer feature list is less persuasive than knowing you will use the lever every morning or the hot-water outlet for your regular Americano. This guide compares the US stainless-steel models, not ES701EU, ES701UK, Mini or Mini Plus.

If you are still choosing between a portafilter and pods, start with Ninja Luxe Café vs Nespresso. If you want a more manual espresso hobby, Ninja Luxe Café vs Barista Express asks a different question. Here we isolate the changes within the Ninja pair.

This is a use-case map, not a performance score. Guidance and cold foam already exist on the Premier; they are not reasons to upgrade by themselves.

US ES601 Premier / ES701 Pro comparison reviewed October 21, 2026, using manufacturer information. Recommendations reflect the documented controls and the work involved, without a comparative taste, speed, noise or reliability test. Regional models and similarly named Mini versions are separate products.

Premier: keep the features you will repeat

The Premier already helps with two awkward parts of beginning espresso: deciding how to adjust the grind and dosing by weight. If those are the reasons you want a Luxe Café, they do not require choosing the Pro. Both machines combine assistance with a removable portafilter rather than hiding the entire coffee cycle in an internal brew group.

The separate tamping step can suit an owner who likes a small preparation ritual. Reserve a stable place for the portafilter and tamper, then include those tools in cleanup. You have not missed an automatic bean-to-cup experience by selecting the Premier: the Pro also requires you to move the portafilter and remove the spent puck.

Premier also offers coffee and rapid cold brew alongside espresso. If your weekday pattern is a breakfast mug and an occasional latte, those existing modes may matter more than an extra milk texture. Cold foam is already part of its menu. Do not buy the Pro because you assume Premier only makes hot espresso.

WhichCapsule note: The comparison uses ES601. Check the model code when choosing another finish or retailer bundle.

Pro: make the tamping and hot-water changes count

The integrated lever changes where tamping happens. That can be useful when you dislike setting down a separate tool between grinding and brewing, or several people share the machine. You still operate the lever; integrated tamping is not automatic puck disposal. Its value is the preparation step it changes, without a documented basis here for promising better espresso.

Independent hot water is a clearer drink-specific distinction. For someone who regularly combines espresso and water, or also wants hot water for tea, having that function on the machine can simplify the setup. It does not prove a particular tea temperature is ideal, and it does not mean the Premier cannot make an Americano using water heated separately.

The fifth froth preset is extra-thick froth; the XL jug is another practical difference. Pick these for milk quantities and textures you actually use. A larger jug is not permission to ignore the program markings, and two drinks do not necessarily need identical milk. Dairy and plant-based drinks may call for separate batches and cleaning between them.

WhichCapsule note: ES701 is the stainless-steel US Pro offer here. A UK or EU video can show controls that should not be assumed to match a US purchase.

Run three ordinary mornings through the choice

One espresso drinker: picture grinding, tamping, brewing and emptying one basket. If you already accept the separate tamper and do not want milk or hot water, the Pro has fewer opportunities to change your day. Start with the Premier unless another verified difference solves a specific need.

Two milk-drink drinkers: list the two coffee preparations, then the milk quantity and texture each person wants. Pro is more relevant if the XL jug and additional preset fit that list. If one person wants dairy and the other cannot share the milk tools, the larger jug alone does not remove the second preparation.

Espresso plus Americano or tea: Pro’s dedicated water function has a daily job. Compare that convenience with the equipment already on your counter. Keeping a kettle may be perfectly reasonable if you prefer it for tea; a new machine function does not have to replace a tool you already like.

WhichCapsule note: These are planning scenarios, not timed trials. Neither simultaneous brewing and steaming nor a faster two-drink sequence is established by this comparison.

Cleanup and working space survive the upgrade

Assistance does not remove wet grounds, milk residue or the need to refill water. Leave room to set down the portafilter, remove the tray, reach the bean hopper and carry the jug to the sink. With Pro, allow space to use the lever comfortably, not simply to park the machine between other appliances.

Follow the instructions supplied for your exact model for wiping and purging milk equipment, cleaning coffee residues and descaling. These are separate jobs. An insulated wand or a cleaning prompt is not evidence of a maintenance-free machine. The Pro family support page linked below currently names ES701C, so confirm the guide matches your purchased US unit before following detailed service instructions.

We omit a footprint ranking because the current manufacturer and retail dimension fields are inconsistent. Measure from a reliable diagram for your exact variant, including access clearance. A guessed size would be less useful than a careful fit check.

If you already own a Premier

Name the annoyance before replacing a working machine. If it is the separate tamper, the Pro addresses that workflow. If it is fetching hot water, the independent outlet addresses that. If it is clearing grounds or washing a milk jug, moving to Pro leaves that obligation with you.

For a new purchase, compare the complete offers: model code, finish, new condition and included baskets or jug. The ES701 new offer checked for this guide was sold and shipped by Amazon.com; a separate used Amazon Resale option was also displayed and is not the new-product recommendation. Premier’s earlier verified offer is retained. Seller selection and availability can change.

Our buying cards use the exact product links and affiliate tag. We do not assume manufacturer-store promotions accompany Amazon purchases, and we do not claim the upgrade pays for itself. If the features you will use are shared, the Premier remains a sensible choice.

What people actually ask

Does the Ninja Premier already have cold foam?

Yes. The US ES601 has four froth presets including cold foam. ES701 adds an extra-thick froth preset; cold foam itself is not exclusive to Pro.

What does the Pro add to the Premier workflow?

Key changes are an integrated tamping lever, independent hot water and expanded milk equipment/options, including an XL jug and extra-thick froth preset. Both retain grind guidance, weight-based dosing and portafilter handling.

Is the Pro fully automatic?

No. You operate its tamping lever and move and empty the portafilter. Assisted frothing still leaves milk equipment to clean. It is not a machine that stores used grounds internally after every drink.

Can Premier make an Americano?

You can combine its espresso with separately heated water. The distinction here is the independent hot-water system on the US Pro, rather than exclusive access to the Americano drink itself.

Should I replace a working Premier with Pro?

Consider it when tamping, independent hot water or the milk changes address a recurring need. If the problem is grounds disposal or milk cleanup, the Pro does not remove those owner tasks. This comparison does not establish a taste or reliability improvement.

Who should buy which version

  • Choose Premier when the shared guided brewing modes cover your drinks and the separate tamper suits you.
  • Choose Pro when its lever, hot water or milk options have a clear recurring job.
  • Keep a working Premier when your upgrade reason is a vague expectation of better coffee rather than a specific workflow change.

The bottom line

I would choose by the task I want to change. For a new owner who wants guided espresso, coffee and occasional milk drinks, Premier already supplies the core experience. For frequent hot-water use or someone who wants the integrated lever every day, Pro has a more concrete purpose.

Pods for this machine
