Choose xBloom Studio if you want an integrated grinder, scale and automated pour-over workflow for individual coffees. Choose Fellow Aiden if you want one brewer that handles a cup or a shared carafe and are happy to supply separately measured ground coffee. Compare Studio with a complete Aiden station, not with the brewer’s price alone. We may earn a commission from xBloom links as well as qualifying Amazon purchases.

Both are filter-coffee choices. Studio’s automation starts earlier in the recipe, with the beans and their measurement inside the system. Aiden concentrates on brewing water through the coffee you prepare. That distinction matters whether you are making a different coffee for each person or one batch for everyone.

Already considering xBloom? The xBloom buying guide, xBloom vs Nespresso and Studio vs Original cover different decisions. Here the question is individual preparation versus shared brewing, with all the equipment counted.

US comparison reviewed October 21, 2026, using manufacturer specifications and Fellow support. We have not measured taste, brew speed, noise or long-term reliability. Studio links preserve WhichCapsule’s existing xBloom/Awin route; Aiden and the separate grinder use tagged Amazon offers. This is filter coffee, not an espresso comparison.

Studio: integrate the steps for the coffee you want now

Studio is the more relevant starting point when you want the machine to handle weighing, grinding and pouring as one brewing system. Its own-bean and xPod-led recipe workflows let you decide how much guidance to use. An xPod is not a Nespresso capsule, and buying Studio does not mean you must use a pod for every coffee.

Imagine you drink one coffee at a time and change roasters regularly. The value is being able to approach each coffee as a recipe in the same station, without transferring the weighing job to a separate counter scale or making a separate grinder the beginning of every brew. That is an equipment and workflow advantage, not proof that the coffee tastes better than Aiden’s.

Prepare the compatible filter and brewing vessel, manage beans and water, and leave access for removing used grounds and cleaning the dripper. Automation does not make those supplies or waste disappear. Check the selected US configuration and current included accessories, especially if you plan to use a different dripper or serving vessel from the one pictured.

WhichCapsule note: Studio’s buying link stays with the existing xBloom/Awin destination. Select your intended US variant there; no unrelated Amazon offer is substituted.

Aiden: prepare the grounds, then choose a cup or carafe

Aiden includes single-serve and batch brewing arrangements plus a thermal carafe. That makes it the clearer starting point when several people want the same coffee together. You prepare an appropriate quantity of grounds and the correct basket/filter, then let the brewer manage the water delivery for the selected recipe.

Fellow explicitly says Aiden does not contain a grinder or scale. If you already own both, that is not automatically a disadvantage: you can keep equipment you know and budget for the brewer alone. If you are starting from whole beans with nothing on the counter, add both missing tools before comparing totals with Studio.

For the filters, Fellow specifies a #2 cone for single serve and standard 8–12 cup basket filters for batch. They are different consumables for different baskets. Lay out the correct basket and filter with the coffee rather than treating a change from one cup to a batch as only a menu selection.

The carafe gives you a common serving point. You can pour for several people from the same brew rather than preparing a different recipe for every cup. It is less useful if everyone wants a different bean or decaf: then the household is asking for separate preparations again. Choose for how people actually drink, not for the largest number on the capacity label.

WhichCapsule note: The Matte Black Aiden card is the brewer with thermal carafe, not a grinder-and-scale package.

Build the Aiden station: keep, include or buy separately

KEEP a suitable grinder and gram scale if you already have them. INCLUDED with the Aiden brewer is its brewing equipment and thermal carafe; check the current filter starter supply and exact box contents. BUY separately any missing grinder, scale and ongoing filters. Coffee storage, washing access and a suitable serving cup belong on the station checklist too.

The BCG820BSS Smart Grinder Pro shown here is one separately sold option with a filter-coffee grinding range. Its normal dose control is timed; it does not weigh the grounds for you. Use your scale to check the amount for the selected Aiden recipe rather than assuming a seconds setting equals the same grams for every bean.

A scale on this list does not have to be a new premium coffee scale. If your current gram scale has suitable capacity and resolution for weighing the coffee you need, keep it. We are not presenting the three buying cards as a complete boxed kit: the Aiden route still needs that separate weighing tool. If you choose pre-ground coffee instead, it changes the grinding requirement, not the absence of a built-in scale.

Solo weekday, shared weekend: test your serving plan

For a solo weekday coffee, compare the preparation you want to repeat. Studio brings beans, weighing and pour-over into one system. Aiden can brew a single serving, but you start with measured grounds and the appropriate single-serve filter setup. Neither machine needs to win a maximum-capacity contest for this person.

For a shared weekend coffee, write down how much each person actually drinks and whether they want the same beans. On Aiden, choose a batch within its stated limits and divide it among the cups you use. On Studio, plan the sequence of preparations you would use. We have not timed that sequence, so this is a question of serving organization rather than a claim about minutes saved.

For different coffees, including one decaf, a common carafe no longer solves the whole problem. Compare separate recipes and resets instead. If only one person wants a second cup later, decide whether to prepare it fresh or serve from the batch. That preference can matter more than whether the brewer advertises ten cups.

Account for cleanup and future changes

Both stations leave used filters and grounds, brewing equipment and water-system care. Aiden also leaves a carafe when you batch brew; a separate grinder adds its own cleaning. Studio keeps more functions inside one machine, but its dripper and grinder still need care. We do not rank total maintenance effort without observing the same recipes and cleaning standard.

The separate Aiden architecture can be attractive if you already own equipment or expect to change your grinder independently. Studio can be attractive if integrating those stages is the reason you are upgrading. Neither arrangement proves lower lifetime cost: service, replacement choices and how long you keep each component all matter. For that broader decision, use the built-in vs separate grinder guide.

What people actually ask

Does Fellow Aiden include a grinder or scale?

No. Fellow’s support documentation explicitly says it has neither built in. For fresh-bean recipes, keep or buy a suitable grinder and use a separate scale for the coffee dose.

Can Aiden make a single cup as well as a batch?

Yes. It has single-serve and batch brewing arrangements. Use the correct basket/filter and recipe; its stated maximum capacity is 1.5 L, rather than a guarantee of a particular number of your own mugs.

Do I have to use xPods with Studio?

No. Studio supports an own-bean workflow as well as xPod-led recipes. Use the compatible dripper, filters and instructions for the route you choose.

Can Studio or Aiden replace an espresso machine?

This comparison concerns filter coffee. An espresso-capable grinding range does not mean Studio brews espresso, and a concentrated filter recipe on Aiden is not an espresso brewing system.

Is the grinder shown with Aiden included?

No. The BCG820BSS Smart Grinder Pro is a separate purchase example. Its timed dose control does not replace a scale, and you should keep an existing suitable grinder instead of buying another unnecessarily.

Why does the Studio button go to xBloom instead of Amazon?

It preserves WhichCapsule’s existing xBloom affiliate route. Aiden and the separate grinder use Amazon buying options. Check the exact US variant, current contents and terms at the respective destination.

Match the station to the people drinking

  • Studio: you want an integrated own-bean pour-over workflow and usually approach coffee as individual recipes.
  • Aiden: you want one cup or a shared batch and will prepare separately measured grounds, using existing tools where possible.
  • Starting from nothing: include grinder, scale, filters and serving supplies before comparing the Aiden station with Studio.

The bottom line

I would start with the serving pattern. Studio is compelling when integrating weighing, grinding and pouring is the goal. Aiden is compelling when a shared carafe is useful and preparing grounds separately suits your kitchen. Buying the brewer alone does not erase the equipment needed to get coffee into its basket.

Use the xBloom buying guide for the Studio ecosystem, Studio vs Original for that model choice and xBloom vs Nespresso if your current coffee comes from capsules.
