Vertuo Creatista vs Gran Lattissima: Vertuo Coffee Sizes or Original Espresso?

Check that both models are sold in the UK version: 230 V with a three-pin plug. UK listings often appear under the Krups, De'Longhi or Magimix name for the same machine, and colours or bundles can differ from US ranges. Our links open Amazon.co.uk with prices in pounds; John Lewis, Argos and Currys are worth comparing for bundles that include capsules or an Aeroccino.

Quick Answer

Choose Vertuo Creatista if you want the Vertuo capsule system, larger coffee-size variety, and an automatic steam wand for milk drinks. It is better if you want espresso-style drinks, double espresso, gran lungo, mug-style coffee, and milk texturing from one premium Vertuo machine.

Choose Gran Lattissima if you want the Nespresso Original system with one-touch milk recipes. It is better if you prefer ristretto, espresso, and lungo as the coffee base, and you want cappuccino, latte macchiato, flat white, caffè latte, hot milk, or milk foam from an integrated milk carafe.

This comparison is not just about milk. It is also about Vertuo vs Original. Vertuo Creatista uses Nespresso Vertuo capsules. Gran Lattissima uses Nespresso Original capsules. The capsules are not interchangeable.

Vertuo Creatista vs Gran Lattissima: Side-by-Side Comparison

Capsule System: The Biggest Difference

This is the most important section. Vertuo Creatista and Gran Lattissima do not use the same capsules.

Vertuo Creatista belongs to the Nespresso Vertuo system. It uses Vertuo capsules and does not accept Nespresso Original capsules. It is built around Vertuo’s capsule recognition and wider cup-size range.

Gran Lattissima belongs to the Nespresso Original system. It uses Original capsules and does not accept Vertuo capsules. It is built around espresso-style extraction and milk recipes.

If you want large Vertuo mug coffees, Vertuo Creatista is the correct system. If you want Original capsules, ristretto/espresso/lungo, and the wider Original-compatible capsule ecosystem available in many countries, Gran Lattissima makes more sense. Compatibility and availability of third-party Original capsules still vary by brand and country, so avoid universal claims.

Coffee Style: Vertuo Variety vs Original Espresso

Vertuo Creatista is better if you want a broad range of coffee sizes. Depending on your capsule lineup, Vertuo can cover espresso-style drinks, double espresso, gran lungo, mug coffee, and larger coffee formats. This makes it better for people who want both short and long coffees from one machine.

Gran Lattissima is better if you prefer the classic Original capsule experience: ristretto, espresso, and lungo. It is not designed for Vertuo mug coffee. Instead, it focuses on espresso bases that can be turned into milk drinks through the integrated milk system.

A practical rule: choose Vertuo Creatista if cup-size variety matters. Choose Gran Lattissima if espresso-based milk drinks matter more.

Milk System: Steam Wand vs One-Touch Carafe

Both machines make milk drinks, but they do it differently.

Vertuo Creatista uses an automatic steam wand with a milk jug. The machine textures the milk, but you still pour it yourself. This gives a more hands-on feel and more control over how the milk is added to the coffee.

Gran Lattissima uses an integrated milk carafe and one-touch milk recipe buttons. It handles more of the recipe flow for you. That makes it easier if you want cappuccino or latte macchiato without thinking about milk texture and pouring.

If you enjoy milk texture and a more barista-style routine, Vertuo Creatista is more appealing. If you want convenience, Gran Lattissima is easier.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Vertuo Creatista needs coffee-machine cleaning plus steam-wand and milk-jug care. You need to clean the steam wand area, rinse the milk jug, empty used capsules, clean the drip tray, rinse the water tank, and descale according to the official manual.

Gran Lattissima needs coffee-machine cleaning plus milk-carafe and milk-circuit care. The integrated milk system is convenient, but it must be cleaned properly. One-touch recipes are not maintenance-free.

The cleaning choice is personal. A separate jug and steam wand can feel easier to understand because everything is visible. An integrated carafe can feel easier during preparation, but it adds a milk circuit to maintain.

Size, Tank, and Counter Space

Vertuo Creatista is a larger premium Vertuo machine with a commonly listed 2 L water tank. That is useful for multiple coffees and larger Vertuo drinks. It also needs room around the steam wand and milk jug.

Gran Lattissima is also a serious milk machine, but it is built around a smaller Original system body and integrated milk carafe. Its commonly listed 1.3 L water tank is enough for many espresso and milk routines, but it is smaller than Vertuo Creatista’s tank.

Before choosing, measure counter depth, cabinet clearance, and milk-area access. The best machine is the one you can comfortably use and clean every day.

Which Machine Should You Choose?

Choose Vertuo Creatista if…

Choose Vertuo Creatista if you want Vertuo coffee sizes and milk texturing in one premium machine. It is better if you drink both mug-style coffees and milk drinks.

It is also better if you like the idea of a steam wand and want more control over the final milk texture and pour.

Choose Gran Lattissima if…

Choose Gran Lattissima if you prefer Original capsules and one-touch milk recipes. It is better if your routine is cappuccino, latte macchiato, flat white, caffè latte, hot milk, or milk foam from espresso-based drinks.

It is also better if you want less hands-on milk work.

Country Availability and Buying Notes

Final Verdict

Choose Vertuo Creatista if you want Vertuo coffee-size variety, larger coffee formats, and steam-wand milk control.

Choose Gran Lattissima if you want Original espresso, lungo, and one-touch milk recipes from an integrated milk carafe.

The buying decision after the spec chart

This is both a capsule-system decision and a milk-workflow decision. Vertuo Creatista takes Vertuo pods and textures milk with a steam wand. Gran Lattissima takes Original pods and dispenses preset milk drinks through its carafe. Do not make the purchase from milk buttons alone: a household wanting regular full-size black coffee is shopping for a different capsule range from one that mostly drinks short espresso-based lattes.

Which costs less to own?

There is no fixed winner without your actual capsule mix. List a week's espresso, mug and milk drinks, price the exact local capsules, then add milk cleaning supplies and any accessories. The systems are not cross-compatible; cheaper machine-only pricing cannot undo years of buying capsules in the wrong format for your drinks.
