Nespresso Advent Calendar 2026: Original vs Vertuo, What to Check Before You Buy

Buying capsules in the UK

Official capsules are sold by Nespresso and on Amazon.co.uk, and Original-compatible brands such as L'OR and Starbucks by Nespresso are stocked in the big supermarkets. UK packs list cup sizes in millilitres. Used aluminium capsules can go back through Nespresso's UK recycling service, and many councils accept them through Podback; check Podback's postcode checker for your area.

What is new for 2026: the Nespresso x Swarovski calendars

For 2026 Nespresso made its advent calendars part of a festive collaboration with Swarovski. There are two calendars, one for Original machines and one for Vertuo machines. Both are sold as a numbered box with 24 windows, with the Original version in pink and the Vertuo version in green. The announcement says they hold seasonal coffees, and on some days you get two capsules so you can share a cup. The calendars and some accessories went on sale before the rest of the collection, which was reported for late October.

The Original calendar is for the small-capsule machines such as Essenza Mini, Pixie, CitiZ and Lattissima. The Vertuo calendar is for Vertuo machines such as Vertuo Pop, Vertuo Next and Vertuo Up. If you want the full collection, including the crystal-decorated CitiZ Platinum, the three limited coffees and the ornaments, read our Nespresso x Swarovski 2026 guide.

I am deliberately not listing a price or an exact capsule count here. Those depend on your country and can change, so read them on Nespresso's own page for your market on the day you buy.

Step one: find out which system the recipient owns

This is the whole game. Original capsules are small and tapered. Vertuo capsules are larger and domed, with a barcode on the rim. They do not fit each other's machines. If you cannot ask without ruining the surprise, look at the capsule sleeves on their counter, or the model name printed on the machine. Our guide to what Nespresso machine do I have shows what to look for. If you still cannot confirm it, a gift card or a non-capsule accessory is safer than guessing.

Professional Nespresso machines used in offices are a third category and should not be assumed to take either calendar.

Step two: read the live product page, not last year's unboxing

Holiday products change every year, and an unboxing video from last season or a marketplace photo is not evidence about this year's box. Before you pay, check these on the page for your country.

Step three: match the assortment to how they drink coffee

A calendar is a tasting experience, so it only works if the coffees fit the person. Someone who drinks short espresso every morning will enjoy a box of espresso-style capsules. A Vertuo owner who always drinks a big mug may be less excited by a box heavy on small cup sizes. Someone who needs decaf should check whether the box contains any before buying.

Seasonal coffees lean toward sweet, dessert-style flavours such as Hazelnut Brownie and Blueberry Cheesecake, which are in this year's collection. If the person prefers classic roasted flavours, look at the intensity numbers described in our guide to what the numbers on Nespresso pods mean.

Calendar or familiar sleeves?

Compare the delivered price of a calendar with a few ordinary sleeves, but do not reduce the calendar to cost per capsule. The packaging and the daily ritual are part of what you are buying. If those do not matter to the recipient, familiar sleeves are the more practical choice.

When to order

Calendars are limited and sold for a season. The 2026 calendars were reported on sale at the end of September, ahead of the full festive collection in late October. Order in October if you want a choice of coffee system and delivery date, and avoid last-minute orders that may arrive after December 1st. If you buy from a marketplace, make sure the listing names the 2026 edition and the system, because older boxes and look-alikes appear every year.

Make it feel like a gift

I like to include a short note asking the recipient to mark three favourites over the month: one tasted black, one with milk and one they would buy again. That turns 24 capsules into a reorder list, and it tells you what to buy next Christmas.

Common mistakes

1. Buying Original for a Vertuo owner, or the reverse.

2. Using last year's reviews to judge this year's contents.

3. Ordering too late and missing the first windows.

4. Choosing a calendar for someone who only drinks decaf or only drinks milk coffee without checking the contents.

5. Treating a marketplace listing as official without checking the seller and the edition year.

Questions people ask

Is there a Nespresso advent calendar for 2026?

Yes. Nespresso launched Original and Vertuo advent calendars as part of its 2026 festive collaboration with Swarovski.

Can I use the Original calendar in a Vertuo machine?

No. Original and Vertuo are different capsule systems, so a calendar made for one will not work in the other.

How many capsules are in the calendar?

Check the product page for your country. The box has 24 numbered windows, but the number of capsules can differ because some days contain two.

When does the Nespresso advent calendar go on sale?

The 2026 calendars were reported on sale from the end of September, before the full festive collection in late October. Dates vary by market.

Is an advent calendar better value than buying capsules?

Not always. You pay for the packaging and the experience as well as the coffee. If the recipient only drinks one favourite coffee, ordinary sleeves will usually cost less per cup.
