Vertuo Next vs Vertuo Lattissima: Coffee Variety or Integrated Milk?

Check that both models are sold in the UK version: 230 V with a three-pin plug. UK listings often appear under the Krups, De'Longhi or Magimix name for the same machine, and colours or bundles can differ from US ranges. Our links open Amazon.co.uk with prices in pounds; John Lewis, Argos and Currys are worth comparing for bundles that include capsules or an Aeroccino.

Quick Answer

Choose Vertuo Next if you want a slimmer, simpler Vertuo machine for black coffee, espresso-style drinks, double espresso, gran lungo, and mug-style coffee. It is better if you mostly drink coffee without milk, have limited counter space, and prefer using a separate frother only when needed.

Choose Vertuo Lattissima if you want the Vertuo capsule system plus integrated milk recipes in one machine. It is better if cappuccino, latte macchiato, and other milk drinks are part of your routine and you do not want to manage a separate milk frother every time.

Both machines use Nespresso Vertuo capsules, not Nespresso Original capsules. The biggest difference is not capsule compatibility. It is whether you want a simple Vertuo coffee machine or a larger Vertuo machine with built-in milk.

Vertuo Next vs Vertuo Lattissima: Side-by-Side Comparison

Capsule System: Both Are Vertuo Machines

Vertuo Next and Vertuo Lattissima both use the Nespresso Vertuo system. They do not use Nespresso Original capsules, and Original-compatible third-party capsules do not work in these machines.

That means both machines are built around Vertuo’s capsule recognition and cup-size variety. Depending on capsule availability in your country, the Vertuo system can cover espresso-style drinks, double espresso, gran lungo, mug coffee, and larger coffee formats.

If you want the wider Original-compatible capsule ecosystem, neither machine is the right direction. If you already know you want Vertuo, then the real decision is milk.

Coffee Variety: What Vertuo Next Does Well

Vertuo Next makes sense if your priority is coffee variety without a built-in milk system. It gives you a one-button Vertuo workflow in a relatively slim machine. You insert a capsule, close the head, and the machine reads the capsule to brew the intended cup size.

This is ideal if you drink black coffee most days. You can move between espresso-style drinks and longer coffees without paying for a milk system you may not use. It also keeps the machine easier to place and easier to maintain.

Integrated Milk: What Vertuo Lattissima Adds

Vertuo Lattissima is for people who want milk drinks built into the machine. It keeps the Vertuo cup-size system but adds an integrated milk carafe and milk recipe workflow.

That makes it much more convenient if you regularly make cappuccino, latte macchiato, or milk-based drinks. You do not need to heat milk separately, pour it into another device, or manage a separate frother for every drink.

The trade-off is size and cleaning. Vertuo Lattissima is larger, and milk systems require more care than coffee-only machines. If you use milk daily, that trade-off can be worth it. If you mostly drink black coffee, it may be unnecessary.

Size, Water Tank, and Counter Space

Vertuo Next is the better fit for smaller kitchens. It has a slimmer body and no milk carafe, so it takes less visual and practical space. It is a good match for apartments, narrow counters, and people who want a clean coffee station.

Vertuo Lattissima is bigger because it includes the milk system. It usually has a larger water tank and milk container, which is helpful for repeated drinks, but it needs more counter space. You also need room to remove, clean, and store the milk carafe.

Before choosing, measure the counter depth, cabinet clearance, and the area around the machine. A milk machine can be convenient, but only if it is easy to access every day.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Vertuo Next is simpler to maintain because there is no built-in milk system. You still need to empty the capsule container, clean the drip tray, rinse the water tank, wipe the coffee outlet, and descale according to the official manual.

Vertuo Lattissima requires all of that plus milk-system care. The milk carafe and milk path should be rinsed and cleaned according to official instructions. Do not treat it as maintenance-free just because the drink preparation is automatic.

If you dislike cleaning milk systems, Vertuo Next is safer. If you drink milk recipes daily and accept the extra care, Vertuo Lattissima gives you a more complete setup.

Which Machine Should You Choose?

Choose Vertuo Next if…

Choose Vertuo Next if you mostly drink black coffee, espresso-style drinks, or mug coffees. It is also better if your counter space is limited, you want a simpler machine, or you already have a separate frother.

It is the more practical choice for users who want the Vertuo system without paying for integrated milk hardware.

Choose Vertuo Lattissima if…

Choose Vertuo Lattissima if milk drinks are central to your routine. It is better if you make cappuccino or latte macchiato often and want one machine to handle both coffee and milk.

It is also better for shared households where one person wants mug coffee and another wants milk drinks from the same machine.

Country Availability and Buying Notes

Availability, colours, bundles, retailers, and capsule ranges vary by country. Vertuo Lattissima may not be listed in every market, and Vertuo Next variants can differ by finish or bundle. Do not publish price, stock, or discount claims without local verification.

Safe next steps:

• Check availability in your country.
• View official options for both machines.
• Search on Amazon or local affiliate merchants where relevant.

Final Verdict

Choose Vertuo Next if you want a slimmer, simpler Vertuo machine focused on coffee variety without built-in milk.

Choose Vertuo Lattissima if you want Vertuo coffee sizes plus integrated milk recipes in one larger machine.

The buying decision after the spec chart

Vertuo Next makes capsule coffee and leaves milk to a separate device. Vertuo Lattissima adds a built-in milk system and preset milk drinks, along with milk-component cleaning. If you drink black coffee most mornings, the extra system adds cost and maintenance without changing your need. If several milk recipes are routine, the integrated flow can save manual pouring steps.

Could Next plus an Aeroccino be the better milk setup?

Yes when you want a removable, separately cleaned frother and only occasionally prepare milk drinks. Lattissima is better suited to the person who values its automatic sequence enough to clean the milk assembly after use. Compare total counter space and the exact bundle price; a machine-only Next offer is not directly comparable to a milk machine.
