Buy the Creatista Pro over the Creatista Plus only if you want the touchscreen, the 2 L (68 oz) tank or hot water for Americanos at a button; the espresso and the milk are the same. Most households are better served by the Plus.

Buying in the UK

Buy the UK model: UK machines run on 230 V with a three-pin plug, while US-spec machines are built for 120 V and should not be used with a plug adaptor. In the UK the same Nespresso machines are sold under the Krups, De'Longhi and Magimix names; the coffee system is identical, so compare colour, bundle and price. Our links open Amazon.co.uk, and John Lewis, Argos and Currys also stock Nespresso machines. Warranty is handled in the country of purchase, so a UK listing is the safer buy.

Both use an automatic steam wand with 11 temperatures and 8 textures in a steel jug, and you pour. The Pro adds a colour touchscreen, a hot-water path and the option to brew coffee while the milk heats. None of that changes the taste of the coffee. It changes how comfortable the machine is when it makes many drinks a day.

It is an Original machine built by Breville, so it takes Original capsules and no Vertuo pods.

Creatista Pro and its alternatives at a glance

Creatista Pro

2 L · About 3 s · Touchscreen, hot-water path · Heavy daily use, Americanos

Creatista Plus

1.5 L · About 3 s · Automatic steam wand, display and controls · Most milk-drink households

Vertuo Creatista

2 L · Fast · Steam wand plus Vertuo cup sizes · Lattes and large mugs

Both Original Creatistas offer 11 milk temperatures and 8 texture levels. The Vertuo Creatista uses Vertuo pods and has 3 temperatures and 3 textures. The Pro measures about 7.7 x 16.9 in and weighs about 14.7 lb; regional pages differ slightly.

Creatista Pro (Breville): the upgrades that matter

Three upgrades do real work. Brewing coffee while the milk heats makes a round of cappuccinos move faster. The hot-water path makes Americanos and long blacks without a kettle. And the larger tank means less refilling in a busy kitchen; one or two people top it up only every few days.

The touchscreen is the most visible change: drinks, milk temperature and texture are set on one screen rather than on a smaller display with controls. Whether that is an upgrade or just a different interface is personal.

The milk side is the same promise as the Plus: an automatic steam wand that heats and textures milk in a steel jug and stops on its own.

WhichCapsule note: Buy the Pro for throughput and hot water. If you make one or two milk drinks a day, the Plus gives you the same cup.

How much counter space does the Pro need, and what is the routine?

Plan on roughly 17 in of depth and about 7.7 in of width, plus working room in front for the jug and wand, and enough clearance to lift the tank out without sliding the machine forward. It is the biggest Original machine in this group, so measure under wall cabinets first.

The routine is the Plus routine: wipe the wand right after steaming, rinse the jug, empty the drip tray and capsule bin (about 12 capsules), and descale when prompted. The screen can make reminders easier to follow, but the machine is not maintenance-free if you steam milk daily. The descaling guide has the steps.

WhichCapsule note: If lifting a bigger tank and fitting a bigger body is a struggle in your kitchen, the Plus is the easier machine to live with.

Creatista Pro vs Creatista Plus

The Creatista Plus has the same wand settings and 3-second heat-up in a smaller body with a 51 oz tank, display controls and no dedicated hot-water recipe.

The full breakdown is in Creatista Plus vs Creatista Pro, one of the comparisons readers search for most.

WhichCapsule note: Plus for most people; Pro for heavy use or daily Americanos.

Creatista Pro vs Gran Lattissima and Vertuo Creatista

The Gran Lattissima finishes milk drinks at a button from a fridge-able container, with nine one-touch recipes, six of them with milk. The Pro gives better, adjustable microfoam but you pour. Creatista Pro vs Gran Lattissima compares them.

The Vertuo Creatista pairs a steam wand with Vertuo pods, which brew mugs and carafe-style coffee that Original capsules cannot. Its milk settings are simpler, with three temperatures and three textures. Vertuo Creatista vs Creatista Plus covers the same system question.

WhichCapsule note: Original espresso and maximum milk control: Creatista Pro. Lattes plus large mugs: Vertuo Creatista.

Who should skip the Creatista Pro?

Skip it if you make one or two milk drinks a day and never use hot water. Skip it too if you want cold foam, because the wand only heats milk, or if you want drinks finished without pouring and wiping.

What people actually ask

Is the Creatista Pro worth it over the Plus?

Only if you will use the hot-water path, make many drinks a day or strongly prefer a touchscreen. The milk and the espresso are the same as on the Plus.

Does the Creatista Pro make Americanos?

Yes. The hot-water path adds hot water to an espresso at a touch, which the Creatista Plus has no dedicated recipe for.

Does it leak?

Check the drip tray, tank seating and wand-purge area. Persistent water under the body needs manufacturer diagnosis; do not assume it is condensation. Our leak guide covers the other checks. There is no published failure-rate data for this model.

How many drinks per tank?

The 2 L tank holds roughly 18 lungos at the standard 110 ml size before rinse water, fewer if you use the hot-water path often.

Can it make iced drinks?

Brew espresso over ice and add cold milk. The steam wand heats milk, so cold foam needs a separate frother.

Who should buy which version

  • Busy household, several milk drinks a day: the Creatista Pro.
  • Daily Americano or long black drinkers who also want milk: the Creatista Pro, for the hot-water path.
  • One or two milk drinks a day: the Creatista Plus.
  • Lattes plus large mugs of black coffee: the Vertuo Creatista.

The bottom line

The Creatista Pro does not make better coffee than the Creatista Plus; it makes more of it, with a bigger tank, and adds hot water and a touchscreen. If those are problems you actually have, it is the most complete Original machine Nespresso sells. If not, the Plus is the smarter buy.

The Creatista Pro page lists its specs and compatible capsules, and the machine finder shows whether you need the extras.
